This morning as I began my day i was encouraged to pick back up a book that had a profound impact on my life. I hope you are a reader; books will change your life; they have changed mine and i am not just talking about story books like The Great Gatsby or The Hardy Boys or a Tom Clancy book or a romance novel, which these are all great books but I am talking about books that will impact your life, make a change in your thinking and open your eyes. Such as The Magic of Thinking Big, As a Man Thinketh, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Success the Glenn Bland Method, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Greatest Salesman in the World, or Failing Forward.
It is called The Assignment by Mike Murdock. I feel so strongly that people are in this world looking for meaning and purpose. They want to do something in their life that will leave a lasting effect on this earth. In his book, he makes a strong statement that is very insightful, and very profound. The statement is "God Planned You." WOW!! Think on that for a couple minutes or even how about a couple of days. Just let that marinate in your heart and mind. You were a plan. God is a Master Planner. Think about this He planned a supper 6,000 years before it happened.
In this book he talks about your assignment and your assignment very simple is the solve a problem. That is it!!! You were created to solve some one or some people's problem. If God planned you, then He created your with a purpose to solve a problem that only you were created to solve and NO one else. You are that unique.
Think about it! Everything on this world was created to solve a problem. For example:
-Eyeglasses were created to solve the problem of people's sight.
-A hard-drive was created to hold and store information.
-A Car made for transportation.
-If your name is George Washington, you were created help establish a new, free nation.
-If your name is Martin L. King, you were created to establish civil rights.
-If your name is Steve Jobs, you were created to transform our world with technology.
And the list could go on and on. Well, it is food for thought that you have a purpose. Remember, your dream is just the reward of you completing your assignment. The dream is what gives you the fuel for your present assignment. Your assignment is to be discovered along the way and it will take on various forms or roles.
Your assignment is also known as your calling. The people that find their assignment NEVER WORK A DAY IN THEIR LIFE!!
In his commencement address to Stanford, Steve Jobs describes how he stayed true to his assignment even though he encountered various challenges. He gives three examples from his personal life- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc
